There are a small number of stand-alone primary facilities in Abu Dhabi but most schools in the city provide from a Preschool to Grade 12/13 program. A number of the newer schools only offer limited primary grades and will continue to expand as each year advances through their system. With a large range of curricula available, it can be intimidating to wade through the range of options on offer.
As soon as you are aware of your move, securing a school should be your number one priority as places are at a premium. The demographic of expatriates in Abu Dhabi is often families with younger children (although this is not necessarily the case within the Shell community) so the demand for places in the younger years of schools is more competitive than those in the upper years.
The standard, quality of facilities, teaching style and language of delivery varies immensely from one school to another but most Shell families end up choosing a system that mirrors the characteristics of their home company or uses an internationally recognised framework such as the International Baccalaureate (IB). Most Shell families are very happy with the standard of education their children receive in Abu Dhabi.
Individual class sizes rarely exceeds 22-24 students.
Outpost Abu Dhabi is a great source of information when it comes to discussing the educational needs of your children. Whilst we do not organise school tours, nor does Shell guarantee places for students at your chosen school we are happy to assist where practical in answering your questions.
